1. Read the audiotranscript with a partner or change some of the information to adapt it to your situation.

2. Write a paragraph describing your research and/or professional experiences. If you do not have any, then write a paragraph describe those of someone else. View the accompanying Power Point presentation on details of how to write this paragraph.

3. Write four questions beginning with "What" when asking someone about their their research and professional experiences, and then answer them. The question does not have to come directly from the listening exercise.
Example: What did Julie do while working on her bachelor's degree?
Answer: She joined the Food Safety Laboratory
Example: What do you enjoy the most about your current employment?
Answer: The opportunity to come into contact with individuals from diverse backgrounds

4. Ask a person two questions beginning with "What" about his or her work or research experiences. Write down each question and its one or two sentence reply. You can select from among the following questions from the above listening exercise as models for the questions that you ask:

What organization did Julie work for while pursuing her bachelor's degree?
