計畫撰寫 (Work Proposals)

Exercise 52
I. Pre-Listening Exercise
II. Listening Exercise
III. Post-Listening Exercise

Purpose:

Writing the hypothesis statement / 假設描述

I. Pre-Listening Exercise [Top]

Check the meanings of the following words and expressions:

  • cesium iodine
  • cesium bromide crystals
  • doped with Oh impurity
  • Stockbarger method in vacuum and Kyropolous method in air
  • gamma irradiation
  • conductivity
  • thermal stabilities
  • radiation defects

Consult page 145 of Writing Effective Work Proposals by Ted Knoy for some of these definitions.

II. Listening Exercise [Top]
1. Listen to the conversation by pressing the "Play" button and then answering the following questions. Press the "Final score" button to check your quiz results.

1. What are some of the methods that can be used to grow cesium iodine and cesium bromide crystals doped with OH impurities?
A. irridation and conductivity
B. the Stockbarger method in vacuum and the Kyropolous method in air
C. recombination and irridation

2. What can be performed at room temperature?
A. gamma irradiation
B. conductivity
C. recombination

3. What can explain conductivity in Jim’s research?
A. different thermal stabilities
B. accompanying recombination processes
C. Both A and B

4. At what dose rate can Jim perform gamma irridation in his experiments?
A. 3500 rad.s-1
B. 3800 rad.s-2
C. 4000 rad.s-2

5. How can Jim measure the conductivity of both irradiated and non-irradiated crystals?
A. as a function of temperature
B. as a function of time
C. as a function of wavelength

2. Listen to the story again as you read the audiotranscript on page 330 of Writing Effective Work Proposals by Ted Knoy.

III. Post-Listening Exercise [Top]
1. Read the audiotranscript with a partner or change some of the information to adapt it to your situation.

2. Write a hypothesis statement for your work or research project (6 – 8 sentences). View the accompanying two Power Point presentations on details of how to write this assignment.

3. Write four questions beginning with “How” regarding your plan to solve or address a problem in a work or research project, and then answer them. The question does not have to come directly from the listening exercise.
Example: How does Jim plan to explain conductivity in his research?
Answer: By the different thermal stabilities of simple and complicated radiation defects as well as by accompanying recombination processes
Example: How do you plan to achieve your work objective?
Answer: By analyzing current conditions, simulating an ideal environment to promote worker productivity, and performing experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach
